This session is how I dream family photos will go.
There’s no time limit other than the sun set, so we start earlier than I think we’ll need because those first 20-30 minutes are full of little eyes cautiously watching what the lady they just met with a big camera is gonna do. So we walk for the sake of walking, not for the pictures but for the chance to chat with Mom & Dad, showing their kids that we’ve got a connection here, so it’s okay to trust the lady they may be unsure of.
There’ve been emails back & forth between Mom & I, chatting about locations & wardrobes & the general excitement going on in their lives, so even though I’ve never met them before, Mom & Dad trust me. And since Mom & Dad trust me, they know a laidback, let-them-run-free session is what will best document their family in this season of life.
This beautiful, messy, will-never-come-again season of being little.
The way the kids push away from hugging Mom & Dad one minute & then hold onto their legs while walking around the next. The slightly crazed look in their eyes as they’re encouraged to run & play & explore what the world has to offer. The look back over their shoulders to make sure Mom & Dad are watching them do all of it.
The backdrop of mountains & lakes & coordinated outfits at sunset may not be true to every day life, but the grass stains, dirty fingers, & tousled hair are.
We create memories of perfect imperfection.
Thanks for trusting Liz & I with memories of your Canadian vacation, Fox Family! If I ever get to Florida, y’all know I’ll swing by to see you & your girls!!
