Welcome to the blog!

She was in troooooouble.

She had met a boy – one of those that when they come along, you know something big is about to happen. Their confidence in God and their willingness to sacrifice their own plan for His will shows they’re the real deal. Riane noticed that this boy could make an entire room erupt in laughter, but also quiet their hearts in prayer.

Plus, he was easy on the eyes.

Little did she know that he had noticed her, too.

Sean & Riane met the summer of 2009 while training in Ontario to be sent out as missionaries with NET Canada. It was at least a year’s commitment to serve God and share the gospel through youth ministry, so beginning a romantic relationship wasn’t really on the table. Even if it had been, Sean thought there was no way this woman – full of grace, with an open heart, and way out of his league – would ever go for him.

Little did he know that she never thought he would go for her, either.

But when their time with NET ended, they still noticed each other.

They had both grown to better understand selfless love, how to meet people where they’re at, and what it means to trust God’s plan. God had orchestrated their meeting, their time apart, and their relationship to begin in His perfect timing.

And they had trusted Him.

I had the honour of spending an evening with these two last summer in Calgary (I made a stop there before heading to Saskatoon for Nathan & Kateri’s wedding) and it was one of the highlights of my trip. Sean & Riane picked me up, showed me the place they had their first date (a picnic in Prince’s Island Park!), and ended the night with more conversation about life over dinner.

They were no different in the car than on the Peace Bridge, or even eating burgers on a patio downtown. These two radiate joy & I felt drawn into their love just by being in their presence. It’s beautifully calming & fills me with hope for everyone they encounter to experience the same.

Much love to you two, Sean & Riane – I hope I get to see you when I come live in Calgary for the month of May!

xoxo
