Welcome to the blog!

A week ago I asked for your help in finding the best fit for the mentorship opportunity I was offering. Man oh MAN did you guys ever go all out! That post was shared and read SO MANY TIMES, and over 30 people applied in just as many hours! WHAT! Thank you!!

Emails full of excitement, fear, and yearning filled my inbox. My heart was pulled into your stories, so honoured to hear about where you’ve been, where you’re at, and where you want to go. Oh goodness, friends, I know the ache that comes with wanting to be better, to be comfortable holding a camera in front of someone, to be reaching people more deeply than just the photos you take of them. I feel you.

I feel you.

I will say that the ache doesn’t go away – it just changes a bit. Everyone’s struggles are different, no matter where you are on the journey of photography. I still have lots to learn, but I’m so excited to be sharing what I do know, the things I’ve figured out on the way to where I am today.

And so, I’m THRILLED to introduce the person I get to share with this summer! I have prayed over this decision, have had other people pray over it, and even the people who applied offered their prayers, asking God to bring me the right person.

I recognized her name when it popped into my inbox because we had been roommates at Rise Up in Calgary – we didn’t know each other before sharing a room, and because I was technically working the conference we didn’t get to spend much time together, but I had also seen her at a worship event a month after coming back to Langley.

From her first email my heart knew something big was brewing with her words:

Last summer, I went on mission with CCO – it was truly a life changing experience, drawing me closer to Christ and learning more about his wonderful plan for me (and so much more!). Last year as soon as I read through the application for the mission I knew that was where The Lord was calling me. The same thing just happened as I read through your blog post about the mentorship opportunity.

Before going to Rise Up people had told me that great things come from who you are roomed with – you are roommates for a reason. When I walked into our empty room and saw the note you left on the bedside table I was honestly a little star struck. I had definitely spent a lot of time admiring your photos and being inspired by what you do!

I have toyed with the idea of becoming a professional photographer – wanting to be a child and family photographer to capture the true love and joy families exude when they are living out their vocations, to tell the stories behind the photographs. I know that these families begin at marriage. I would be honoured to be able to help tell the stories of these generation changers – as I am striving to be one myself!

We emailed back & forth, eventually going for coffee at my favourite place in Fort Langley. Our schedules lined up so quickly that it was hard not to recognize God’s hand in orchestrating everything.

I knew that this was the person God placed in front of me for this mentorship opportunity before I sat down with her, and everything she said confirmed what I was feeling in my gut.

Please give an Internet high-five to ELIZABETH!!! I am so excited to be sharing with her about photography & business and growing as women together this summer!
