They were running on God’s time.

It’s what I said to Mikaelah before I left her family’s acreage to head to the church. Things were a little behind schedule, so I told her to take a deep breath & remember this day had been planned using God’s time, so not to worry about the clock.

It was a sentiment echoed by Fr Jerome at the back of the church when I let him know the girls were a little late leaving the house. He said, “We’ve worked so hard & waited so long to get them to today, what’s another few minutes?”

Joey & Mikaelah have hearts of gold, wisdom beyond their years, and kindness flowing out of them in every interaction they have. They’ve encountered God’s mercy & want others to know how good He is. They chose to get married during this Year of Mercy, ultimately choosing to have their theme be Divine Mercy. A beautiful part of the Divine Mercy devotion is the 3 O’Clock Prayer, where time is taken to acknowledge what Jesus did for us at 3pm on Good Friday.

Now, while beginning your wedding mass late is not the ideal situation (since they were both so excited to be married!!), one of Mikaelah’s bridesmaids pointed out how their lateness gave way to another little gift in God’s timing:

They said their vows at exactly 3pm.

Joey & Mikaelah, you are undoubtedly bringing people closer to Jesus. By living out your vocation, you are giving people tangible examples of how to best love others over & over & over. You have an army of people praying for you & I am so delighted Liz & I got to be with you & all of them to celebrate the beginning of your marriage!!
