God is in the details of redemption.

For Sarah & Brett, this week of January marks the one year mark since they shared the news of their miscarriage. Deep sorrow.

This week also marks the birth of their daughter. Deep joy.

I’d planned to blog their wedding this week a long time ago, not knowing the significance of these days. The details matter. Everything goes hand in hand, sorrow & joy, the smallest of things never overlooked by Jesus.

Much of the Christian life is like that, hey? Balancing between the ache on earth and the ache for heaven. The ache that can come with just being human: disappointment, loss of a loved one, wondering what could have been. The joy that can come with just being human, too: happiness, gaining a new family, relishing in the sweetness of what is and reminiscing about what has been.

Their wedding day in June of 2017 was a bit of both, acknowledging how they both went through the toughest stuff life can present and both came out stronger, more loving, more gentle because of it. And more badass, let’s be real – these two are all in, soak everything life has to offer up, go big or go home kind of people!

It was the rainiest wedding I’ve ever photographed, yet in the supposedly least rainy city I know! I think maybe it was all of heaven crying tears of joy – because I’ve never known it to rain that hard for that long (allllllll daaaaaaaaay and night!!), and I live in the lower mainland of BC!! Lots of their day was moved inside into their reception hall at the Calgary Zoo and we ran from building to building to do portraits!
